Winnie Cook, PCD (DONA), CLE

Hello, there!

I am Whitney, also called Winnie. Nice to meet you!

Ever since I can remember, I had wanted to be a “baby doctor” which my parents had to translate to “OB/Gyn” when I told people which career I wanted to have. As an adult, life had me travel different paths, but I kept being drawn back to reproductive rights, education, and accessibility.

I was introduced to the wonderful world of doulas through a birth I was asked to support. The birth doula explained to me that there were many types of roles in the birthing world and that she suggested looking into postpartum work after our time together. The more I researched, the more I fell for the idea and trained with the Simkin Center at Bastyr University with extra training in perinatal mood disorders to better assist families with a history of mental health needs, trauma, and/or past birth concerns.

I thoroughly believe in uplifting people around me to be the best that they can be by leading with my own actions and creating a safe space. Coming into a client’s home, I do my best to praise their strengths, listen to their stories, hear their concerns, and set them up for success. No question is too small or “dumb.” (In fact, I learn something new from each family I have the honour to support!)

Parenthood isn’t easy, and in this time of mass communication within a scroll of the screen, information overload is an obstacle. I bring comprehensive, evidence-based guidance to the table and support families in their choices, walking the path with them until they tell me my time is done.

When I am not working, you’ll find me holed up in the closest bubble tea shop, eating off carts while globetrotting, reading, or cuddling any dog I can get my hands on.

My future endeavors include supporting families through pregnancy or infant loss, and holding space for folks and families navigating termination decisions and procedures.

Cheers!
Winnie
